We just finished a week of Vacation Bible School here in Baumholder. It is a really big deal every year. It is a time when all the chapels combine and gather and many kids as possible to hear the story of Jesus. This year we had close to 150 kids and 70 volunteers making the event possible.
Doing a vacation Bible School in an Army community has some special challenges. One challenge is finding a space to do the event, this year we used the elementary which presented some very exciting challenges. Another is finding enough volunteers to do the program. Because of the turn over in a military community we have to "start over" every year with new folks.
A lot of works goes into recruiting and training volunteers, decorating the facility so that it doesn't look for feel like school, and registering and organizing all the children. Debbie and I helped with the set up, some of the organization and the clean up. The first day Debbie helped with registration and then helped throughout the week where she was needed. I taught the Bible Story each day. Although Bible School was a lot of work we spent most of our time just being goofy, participating is skits, singing songs and loving on the kids. I think the event was a great success as the gospel was clearly presented to all of the children and adults who where there.
This weekend I am doing a three day bike trip with some men who are in the community. Debbie is going to spend some time with their wives, shopping I think. Next weekend Debbie and I will be visiting our house directors in England and then for Labor Day we are taking a group camping in the Netherlands. I have never been to the Netherland and am a little nervous about the trip. Right now it looks like we have 8 kids and 8 adults who will be joining us. So it feels like we are busy with a lot to do.
Thank you so much for reading, praying and giving to this ministry. Baumholder is truly a different place because of your involvement.
